Thats a biggun'

While enjoying my McD breakfast I observed a man and his son fishing off dam 1 at Batesville. Ot once his rod bent over and he replied by applying appropriate force opposite of whatever it was stretching his line. This went on for 5 or so minutes. He was carefull to work the fish delicately as he was wrangling it with only a small Zebco 404. For a moment or two I thought he might just be hung on a log. However it turned out to be a log with scales.

R.I.P. Dear Sister and Fishing Buddy

On Wednesday I lost one one of the best fishing buddies of my life. That was my sister. As children we would fish till dark at City Park lakes and University lakes in Baton Rouge, LA. The only thing that would drag us away was our mother who would track us down and insist thay we come home. I wish I could say that we caught a lot of fish from those lakes, however, I am proud to say that we did spend some quality time together. My sister led a spirited life. She was a generous person who shared what she had when she had it.  I will miss her, especially when I am fishing.

Do it again Daddy!!!

Whether taking a piggy back ride, swinging from my thumbs, or sliding down the slide at the park, one of the most rewarding things a father can hear is, "Do it again Daddy!! What is your best, "Do it again Daddy" story?

Double the Fun

First, I want to start out by saying I'm no Bill Dance or Roland Martin. My philosophy is, as the old saying goes, "a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work!" I know guys who will bad mouth the whole experience of the day if they do not catch a fish. For me, it's about the entire experience from operating the boat, to watching Great Blue Herons fly over, to feeling the tug on the line.  Don't get me wrong, I still feel the need to "produce" in order to justify the cost of the boat, the truck, the tackle, and especially these days the gas. However, I must encourage all you to push that aside and take notice of what is around you the next time you are outdoors. Some of the greatest and most beautiful things are right there in front of us if we take the time to notice. If you can do that, you will have double the fun! I invite to comment on my posts and to send in your your stories and pictures of the great natural things you see and experience while hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing or even while strolling in your back yard. Don't worry, you don't have to be Earnest Hemingway, you just have to be willing to share a picture or two with description of what is happening. Just simply email me at afishyfella@afishyfella.com and I will share them here on www.blog.afishyfella.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

1fishyfella

This little guy is 1fishyfella. He is my 1st mate. Soon he will be big enough to take along with us on our outings. I can't wait til I can take video of him catching his first fish.

Hello, this is my new blog.

Hi, I'm afishyfella. If you like fishing, camping, hiking, canoeing, boating, or just breathing the outdoor air, you are in the right place. I'm starting this blog to share my outdoor experiences and to find folks like me who enjoy spending time outdoors in the Natural State. Another mission of this blog will be to acquire local knowledge of outdoor fun spots of Arkansas and share that information with you so you can enjoy what Arkansas has to offer.
